Speaker Bios

Marie Deatherage

Director of Communication and Learning, Meyer Memorial Trust
Marie began working for the Meyer Trust in 1992, first overseeing the Small Grants program.  She worked in the nonprofit world for a number of years and was the founder and executive director of Parent Resources on Disabilities.  Marie also published several periodicals about disabilities, including the Oregon Clarion and the Bridge.  She has a BA from the University of Chicago and an MA from the University of Oregon, where she was advanced to PhD Candidacy in the Department of Geography.
 
Marie grew up in rural Oregon and studied Oregon extensively throughout her academic career.  Past employment includes teaching at Portland State University, Lewis and Clark College, Willamette University, and the University of Oregon.  She has also worked as a researcher,  parent and disability rights advocate, and journalist.
 
Having worked for several years as a program officer, Marie is now director of communication and learning at the Trust.  She is responsible for the Trust’s website and other communications, and is developing a system for sharing learning at the Trust and beyond.
