He is actively engaged in all phases of the research process including scoping and proposal development, design of surveys and sampling strategies, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and presentation of results and recommendations to clients. Dr. Schwarz’s broad analytical expertise includes a deep knowledge of developing and implementing hierarchical statistical models of customer preferences for products and services, and time series models of IT-related spending patterns. In addition to his custommarket research role, Dr. Schwarz leads an internal team that is developing asustainability-related or green research practice at HANSA|GCR.Dr. Schwarz came to HANSA|GCR from Gartner where he led the technical development and analysis of Gartner’s syndicated research service, IT Watch, which was focused on B2B spending trends and vendor selection. Prior to Gartner, Dr. Schwarz was a scientistat Oregon State University. As an academic researcher, Dr. Schwarz relied on advanced quantitative methods and simulation modeling to investigate effects of global change on natural ecosystems and their carbon footprints. He is the author of a number of peer-reviewed scientific publications related to global climate change, carbon emissions and quantitative methods. His move from academia to the private sector represented an opportunity to leverage his research experience and knowledge of natural ecosystems toexplore business and marketplace ecosystems.Dr. Schwarz’s interest and passion for sustainability and global change-related issues dates back to his undergraduate years at Cornell University where he worked with a professor to analyze the impact of tropical deforestation on the world’s carbon cycle. While at Cornell, he earned three degrees: a bachelor of science in environmental engineering, a master’s and a doctoral degree in natural resources with a graduate minor in biometry and statistics.
